Myth: Only healthcare professionals should perform CPR

Myth: I might hurt someone.
Fact: During cardiac arrest, taking action is generally better than doing nothing. High-quality CPR provides an opportunity to help someone until professional responders arrive.
Myth: CPR always includes mouth-to-mouth breathing.
Fact: In many adults emergencies, Hands-Only CPR is recommended for bystanders who are not trained or are unwilling to provide rescue breaths.
A Real-Life Example
A high school basketball coach collapsed during practice after experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. A teacher who had recently completed CPR training immediatly recognized the emergency, instructed another staff member to call 911, began CPR, and retrieved the school's AED.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes and continued advance care. The quick actions of trained bystanders gave the coach the best possible chance while waiting for professional medical assistance.
